We all have ground beef in the freezer. Whether you’re saving it for burgers on the grill, easy taco filling for your next Taco Tuesday fiesta, or a homemade meat sauce, it’s always good to have on-hand. If you need another ground beef recipe, add these slow cooker sloppy joes to your recipe rotation.

Ground beef sloppy joes are an easy slow cooker recipe you can make for a busy weeknight dinner, gameday watch party, or neighbourhood potluck. They’re always a crowd pleaser (and kid favorite) no matter what the occasion.

Heat a little oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook until they’re translucent and tender. Remove the onions then add five pounds of lean ground beef (we’re feeding a party, after all). Cook until browned then add the beef and onion to the slow cooker crock.

In a medium bowl, combine ketchup, sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, hamburger seasoning and salt. Pour over the ground beef in the slow cooker and stir until the beef is fully coated with the tasty sauce.

Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH  for 1 to 2 hours or LOW for 3 to 4 hours.

If you’re planning on serving these sloppy joes at a tailgate or potluck, switch the slow cooker to WARM and set up a build-your-own sandwich buffet for your guests. Put out slider rolls and toppings like sweet peppers, cheese, and crispy bacon, pickles, and mustard.

These sloppy joes are a little sweet, a little salty, and a just the right kind of messy. They’re the perfect go-to sandwich for anytime of year. So the next time you find a few pounds of ground beef in the freezer, plug in your slow cooker and make a sloppy supper.

There’s no better meal to offer a family with different tastes (while agreeing on one protein). Our Make it with Hamilton Beach host, nutritionist Miranda Malisani, created this delicious and easy recipe for Chicken Burrito Bowls.

Burrito bowls are a fun way to have kids (and adults) choose their own ingredients especially after a long day at work or school. This dinner can be prepped easily and cooked in advance for an easy dinner. It’s also great leftovers too – the chicken is moist and perfect for next day sandwiches.

Summer is over and you’re probably starting to switch things up in the kitchen, menu-wise. If you spent the last few months standing by the grill, making homemade ice cream, or enjoying frozen cocktails at happy hour, it’s time to get ready for fall. If you made carne asada this summer it was likely on the grill. This slow cooker carne asada is perfect for fall and winter months, when you want to stay warm but don’t want to sacrifice your favourite recipes.

Arrange onion slices in a single layer at the bottom of the slow cooker crock and place the flank steak on top. We used two pounds of flank steak and cut it into four pieces for quicker, even cooking.

Then make the zesty marinade to flavor your steak (this is the real star of the show). Mix lime juice, vegetable oil, apple cider vinegar, garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika and smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and ancho chili powder. Pour the spicy mixture over the flank steak in the slow cooker crock.

Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours or on LOW for 5 to 6 hours.

When the steak is fully cooked, remove it and shred the meat – reserving the juices. Transfer the steak back to the slow cooker and spoon the marinade back over top to moisten and flavour before serving. Add a little garnish of cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime juice to complete the dish.

Serve this slow cooker carne asada as a taco filling on Taco Tuesday or use it to make loaded nachos and feed the fans at your house on gameday. Making carne asada in the slow cooker is also a great meal prep option for the week. Store it in the fridge to quickly throw into quesadillas, burrito bowls, or to stir into macaroni and cheese throughout the week.

Prefer the grill, even on chilly fall nights? Use the same marinade for your grilled carne asada and enjoy tasty grilled carne asada all year long.

Baked beans are a classic summer side dish you will find at almost any backyard barbecue or summer party. Not only are they are sweet and salty crowd-pleaser, baked beans are super easy to make (and transport) in your Hamilton Beach® slow cooker for your next potluck.

In the slow cooker crock, mix two cans of pork and beans, two cans of northern beans, onion, jalapeño, molasses (for some added sweetness and nice, deep color), brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper.

Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Cover and cook on HIGH for 5 to 6 hours or LOW for 11 to 12 hours. You’ll know they’re done when the sauce has thickened slightly.

Slow Cooker Baked Beans

We love making baked beans in the slow cooker because there is no need to dirty any extra dishes. You mix all the ingredients in the crock, set it, and forget it. Once the beans are done, you can use the slow cooker as an easy way to transport the beans to the summer party or potluck. The Hamilton Beach® Set & Forget® 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker’s clip-locked, secure lid has a tight seal to help ensure that you, your shirt, and your car arrive spill-free. It can even function as the serving dish. No need to transfer these baked beans to a serving bowl, just switch the slow cooker to WARM and let party guests serve themselves.

Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Get creative with toppings and mix-ins for your baked beans. We added a generous sprinkling of crispy bacon on top, but you could add almost anything to these beans. Have plenty of fresh fruit in the kitchen? Chop up summer favorites like fresh peaches or juicy pineapple and stir them into the beans for a tropical spin. Want a little kick? Stir in your favourite hot sauce and top with extra jalapeños or peppers from your garden.

Every year on a business trip to Des Moines, Iowa I go to 801 Chophouse.  Religiously, I have been going to 801 for at least 10 years (sometimes twice in one year, if I’m lucky). While it’s a fabulous steak joint, the absolute best part of the restaurant is their creamed corn.  The restaurant is in Iowa after all – home of the best corn in the world, and I could eat their creamed corn for every meal. It’s that good.

We replicated that dish in the Hamilton Beach Test Kitchen utilizing a slow cooker so you don’t have to stand over a simmering hot stovetop. Keeping myself and the house cool is a top priority in the summer. We used the Hamilton Beach® Temp Tracker™ 6 Quart Slow Cooker which holds food at a set temperature for a selected amount of time. These functionalities help you avoid overcooking your fresh corn.

Microwaving the corn first helps cut down on the  cooking time, so it comes together in just a few hours.  Set the Temp Tracker™ slow cooker to LOW and the probe to 175°F. Then set the temperature hold time for 3 hours. The dish won’t overcook and the kernels will stay perfectly crisp – no mushy corn here.

This fresh creamed corn is complete with butter, cream, and sweet corn, making it, well heavenly.  It’s sweet and rich and the butter and cream just make the corn taste better. Using fresh sweet corn that’s abundant this time a year is the only way to go.  And if you ever find yourself in Des Moines, go to 801 Chophouse and order the creamed corn, it is positively to die for.
