When you find your favourite fresh produce at the grocery store, make it into handy freezer packs to save yourself some time and effort the next time you crave a smoothie. Whether you want to blend a quick breakfast for the kids or fuel-up after a workout, all you have to do is add these freezer packs to your blender along with juice (and in some cases yogurt) and your smoothie is ready with the push of a button.

During recipe development, the test kitchen found that using room temperature juice works best when making smoothies with frozen fruits and vegetables. We know most of you will use juice that you already have in the refrigerator and that’s just fine. You may need to add more liquid to achieve the consistency you want, or use the tamper to help mix the ingredients as the smoothie blends. You can also leave the freezer pack on the counter while you hop in the shower or run the plastic bag under warm water in the sink for a few seconds to help thaw out the ingredients a bit before blending.

Smoothies are everywhere these days, and it’s easy to see why: they are quick, healthy, and delicious. We made this berry-based smoothie in the test kitchen the other day and got a lot of “oohs” and “ahs” about the bright colour and the refreshing taste. This recipe makes enough for up to a family of six, so it’s great for mornings when you are trying to get everyone out the door. Or, if you have extra, you can freeze the leftovers in ice cube trays and save them for another day. Go ahead and pick up some frozen berries on your next shopping trip so you’ll be ready for this Berry Berry Smoothie the next time you need a quick breakfast on a warm morning.

Test Kitchen Tip: Place liquid ingredients into the blender first. This way, the blending process will start and pull the chunks of fruit down into the blades. In the end, the drink will be smoother.

This delicious berry smoothie is naturally sweet because it contains bananas. We made this in our Smoothie Smart Blender because it has a convenient one-touch smoothie button and powerful ice-crushing blades.
